1 review for SCAT 1-1/2″ Quart Oil Sump – VW Type 1-3 Engine

  1. Phillip Fair (verified owner)

The overall quality is solid however there are a few things that need to be addressed. 1 is that the design is different that pictured it is flatter and lower profile than what is pictured. The one you will receive will look more like the one listed for the Porsche 914. 2. This is listed as a 1.5 quart which is not accurate it’s about 8 oz short of the 1.5 qt mark and that’s filled to the top of the bolt holes. Realistically this is a a 1 qt sump. 3. Has to do with mounting Scat provides socket bolts because there is no room to use nuts with studs which many of us prefer. While I’m on the subject of bolts vs studs the long stud used to secure the oil suction tube has to be removed and the socket bolt used so good luck getting the nut off the stud and reattached with the sump installed. I was able work around this issue using small head metric flanged jet nuts allowing me to use traditional studs https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productselection.asp?Product=MJET . 4. It would be nice if the plug bungs were drilled and tapped and plugs provided but that’s not a deal breaker. The casting is not as refined as the deep sump on my current engine but the internal reinforcements and the low profile should offset my discrepancies. Like I said overall quality is good but there is plenty of room for improvement.
